Dr. Christine Berg heads the Maritime Safety Unit of the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission. The unit strives to develop and implement policies and legislation for the promotion of quality shipping and for the prevention of accidents and pollution caused by ships.
Christine Berg headed the office of the Director General for Transport and Energy from 2006 to 2008. Thereafter she managed units in Directorate General for Energy and Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry where she was amongst other items dealing with the European satellite programme for Earth observation, Copernicus. She joined the European Commission in 1996 after having worked as a Management Consultant with an international firm. She graduated in business administration and holds a doctoral degree in economic and social sciences.
